Mandan, ND Real Estate

The city of Mandan was named after the Native American tribe that settled in the area between 1000 AD and the 13th century. It has its origins as a cavalry fort, having been the site of historic Fort Abraham Lincoln in the 1870s.

The fort was abandoned in 1891 with the completion of the North Pacific Railway expansion, marking Mandan’s transition into a railroad town. Several farmers and ranchers settled in the area, transforming it into a flourishing agricultural town.

Along with Bismarck, Mandan is now at the core of the Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Bisman area, as it is commonly referred to, has seen its economic profile rise, thanks to a recent oil boom in the state. As the county seat for Morton County, Mandan has become one of the region’s major business hubs.

Almost overnight, the Bismarck-Mandan area transformed from a sleepy town into a bustling urban center. More and more people have been moving here for its many economic opportunities, and in the process, they’ve discovered the wonderful lifestyle the area has to offer.
